GEO Promotion with Zenlink: How to Connect AI Traffic, SEO, and Telegram
A person may first discover a service outside Telegram. They compare solutions in a search engine, ask an AI tool a question, read a review, or open a professional publication. If they then move to Telegram, the channel becomes a continuation of an already started interaction with the brand.
That is why promoting a Telegram project should not be viewed only within the messenger itself. First, you need to understand where the brand appears outside Telegram, what users see about it, and which pages or publications can lead them further. For this purpose, it is useful to consider SEO and GEO together while measuring their results separately.
Where External Audiences Come to Telegram From
Telegram can be more than just the final platform to which an already interested audience is directed. A user may first encounter a brand in search results or an AI answer, visit a website or an external publication, and then continue learning about the company in Telegram. At the same time, Telegram itself can also serve as a source of organic traffic.
Search Results Lead to More Than Websites
Public Telegram channels are accessible on the web without an account, and their content can be indexed by search engines. This does not mean that every channel or every post will necessarily appear in search results, but the channel itself can become an entry point from search.
A SEOWORK study based on 2024 data found Telegram links in roughly 40 million search-result snapshots covering more than 1.2 million queries. The authors separately analyzed visibility in Yandex and Google. These figures demonstrate that Telegram can appear in search, but they do not provide a universal traffic estimate for every channel.
That is why a channel should be prepared not only for subscribers who are already inside Telegram. The page should also be clear to someone opening it from search for the first time.
An AI Tool May Provide a Brand Name, a Link, or Nothing at All
GEO, or promotion in generative systems, concerns the presence of a brand and its content in AI answers. It is important to distinguish between several possible outcomes.
A brand may be mentioned without a link. A website link may appear. A user may follow that link or remember the brand name and search for it independently. None of these outcomes, by itself, means that the person subscribed on Telegram or contacted the company.
This is clearly illustrated by an Ahrefs study based on more than 31,000 mentions of the Ahrefs brand across six AI systems. On average, a link accompanied a mention in about 28% of cases, with substantial differences between systems.
AI traffic can already be measured as a separate source of website visits. According to Semrush, it grew by 66% in 2025, while still accounting for less than 0.15% of visits in a sample of more than 50,000 websites. Organic search continued to generate a much larger volume.
The practical conclusion is that GEO does not replace SEO. Traditional search remains an independent source of traffic, while AI search adds another way for people to discover information.
How GEO Connects with Traditional SEO
GEO does not begin with trying to guess the wording an AI system will show to a user. The first step is to understand the audience's real tasks and questions.
For a service, these may include questions about choosing a tool, differences between solutions, compatibility, limitations, pricing, or a specific setup. Such wording can be used as working hypotheses. Its search frequency should not be treated as proven without a separate demand study.
The next step is to check what is already happening in AI answers. For each query, it is useful to record:
the exact wording of the question;
the date of the check;
the specific system and operating mode;
the brands mentioned;
links to sources;
the content of the answer;
errors or outdated information.
One successful answer does not mean stable visibility. Repeated checks are necessary because different systems use different models and different methods for generating answers.
At the same time, the basic principles of SEO remain in place. Google explicitly states that AI Overviews and AI Mode do not require separate technical requirements or special markup. A page must meet the standard requirements for search, be indexed, and be eligible to appear with a snippet. Even meeting these conditions does not guarantee inclusion in a specific AI answer.
GEO work therefore includes clear and verifiable tasks: keeping product information up to date, creating pages that answer real questions, building a clear structure, connecting related materials internally, and establishing the brand's presence in relevant external sources.
Which GEO Promotion Tasks Zenlink Handles
When internal data is no longer enough, the external part of the task can be delegated to a specialized provider. Zenlink works on brand visibility in AI systems in several areas: it performs diagnostics, analyzes competitors and current mentions, helps build an external-presence strategy, prepares expert content, and provides recommendations for the website itself. Results are then tracked through repeated checks in the selected AI systems. The set of systems monitored depends on the plan, while placements on external platforms are paid for separately.
The work begins with diagnostics. The team checks how the brand and its materials are represented in popular AI systems, which queries trigger its appearance, which sources are used in answers, and which competitors already have visibility. This creates a baseline against which later changes can be compared.
The next area involves external mentions. Zenlink works with expert content and placements on relevant platforms. Depending on the task, these may include publications in blogs, forums, and other external resources, as well as video formats. To prepare materials, the team may interview company employees so that publications reflect the project's actual expertise rather than being assembled only from publicly available descriptions.
The company's own website is evaluated separately. If it contains outdated descriptions, contradictory information, or no answer to an important audience question, external publications do not solve the underlying problem. That is why the work also includes recommendations on the site's structure, content, and presentation of information, including answers to user questions.
A repeated check is then required. It makes it possible to compare visibility for the same queries and in the same systems used at the start. This approach is more meaningful than simply counting published materials: the number of placements alone does not show whether the brand's presence in AI answers has changed.
External mentions should not be treated as a guaranteed way to receive an AI recommendation. Research shows an association between a brand's web presence and AI visibility, but it does not prove that a certain number of publications alone will cause mentions to increase.
For a separate assessment of the role of external sources, Zenlink has an analysis of external brand mentions.
Where to Send a User After They Discover the Brand
After reading an external publication, a user does not always need to be sent to Telegram. If they need to compare terms, limitations, or product characteristics, it is more logical to provide a complete website page.
Telegram makes sense when it continues the same task. For example, an external article may explain a setup in detail, while the channel regularly publishes updates about that tool. In this case, there is a clear reason to move to Telegram.
Several scenarios can be used.
User's task | Where to send them | What should be ready |
|---|---|---|
compare solutions | product or comparison page | criteria, limitations, and current terms |
understand the setup | guide or specific publication | complete answer and navigation |
follow changes | Telegram channel | useful updates on the same topic |
discuss applicability | contact or form | clear task description and next step |
This approach does not make a subscription a mandatory intermediate step. Some users will get their answer on the website and contact the company immediately. Others will open Telegram first, study the materials, and only then send a message.
What to Check in Telegram Before External Promotion
A public channel should continue the promise the user saw before clicking through.
Before launching external promotion, check that:
the channel description is clear to someone who is not yet familiar with the brand;
the latest publication matches the stated topic;
there is a specific entry-point publication for visitors coming from an external article;
useful materials can be found without scrolling through the entire feed;
it is clear where to write with product-related questions;
links open correctly both in a browser and in Telegram;
the channel's content matches what the external page promises.
Making a channel public allows it to be discovered through web search, but does not guarantee that every piece of content will appear in search results. Telegram channel promotion should therefore be built around clear and useful content rather than the assumption that a search engine will automatically display the required post.
How to Check Whether External Visibility Led to Inquiries
The main measurement mistake in GEO is mixing different metrics together.
What is measured | Where to check | What the metric does not prove |
|---|---|---|
brand mention in an AI answer | check log | that the user saw the answer |
website link in the answer | the same log | that the link was clicked |
visit from an AI service | website analytics | that the entire journey started with AI |
click to Telegram | website event | that the person subscribed |
join through a dedicated link | Telegram data | that the first discovery source is known |
inquiry | conversation records or CRM | that the inquiry became a sale |
For a website, visit sources are identified through the referrer and tracking parameters. Yandex Metrica separately notes that when source data is unavailable, some visits may be classified as direct traffic. In addition, the source is determined from data associated with the first page view within a session.
That is why the question of how to track visits from AI tools cannot be reduced to a single report. Links should be tagged in advance wherever possible, and clicks to Telegram should be tracked separately.
Within Telegram, additional invite links can be created to see which users joined through each one. This makes it possible to compare different external sources, but it does not reveal the entire history of a person's interaction with the brand. A link may have been forwarded, or a user may have first seen the brand in AI, then found the website independently, and only later opened Telegram.
It is therefore useful to record both technical data and the content of inquiries. For example, in their first message a person may state where they saw the company. Such information complements analytics but does not replace it.
Where Telegram Expert Helps After the Inquiry
External promotion creates a separate task inside Telegram when a person writes directly to a work account and needs to receive basic information immediately.
Telegram Soft Expert is used in this scenario as a tool for handling incoming messages. Its autoresponder allows a reply to be configured using a predefined template.
For example, after an inquiry, you can automatically send prepared product information, a link to the relevant guide, or the next step. A specialist can then handle the person's specific request.
In this scenario, Zenlink and Telegram Expert solve different tasks: the former works on the brand's external visibility, while the latter can be used after an inquiry is received inside Telegram.
FAQ
Can a Telegram channel be promoted without a website?
Yes. A public channel can be accessible on the web and appear in search results. However, having a website provides an additional platform for detailed descriptions, guides, and other materials.
If an AI tool mentions a brand without a link, does that count as traffic?
No. A mention indicates that the brand is present in the answer, but it does not mean that a visit occurred. The Ahrefs study demonstrates a noticeable difference between the number of mentions and the number of mentions that include a link.
Why can some AI-driven visits appear as direct traffic?
The source depends on the referrer and tracking parameters that are passed along. If there is not enough data, the analytics system may be unable to identify the original source. A person may also learn about the brand and later open its address independently.
Can every Telegram subscription be linked to a user's question to an AI tool?
No. Even a dedicated invite link shows which link a person used to join the channel, but it does not reveal the full history of their previous actions.
Does GEO replace SEO?
No. Google explicitly states that the basic principles of SEO still apply to its AI features, while Semrush's 2025 study recorded a much larger volume of traditional organic search traffic than AI traffic. GEO and SEO address related but different tasks.
